A
ridosso delle dune rosse di Sossusvlei (ritenute le più alte al
mondo), si trova uno dei lodges più esclusivi della Namibia –
“Little Kulala”– anch’esso frequentato abitualmente da attori
e miliardari americani che vogliono scappare e dimenticare per
qualche giorno i fasti della Jet Society.
“Little Kulala”, che sorge sulle rive del fume Auab (normalmente
sempre secco, eccetto in caso di rare piogge repentine), fa parte
della catena dei “Wilderness Safari”, un gruppo che gestisce una
serie di campi e di lodges di altissimo livello, prestigio e qualità su
una superfcie di circa 3 milioni di kmq. “Wilderness Safari” oltre
che in Namibia opera anche in Sud Africa, Botswana, Zambia
e Zimbabwe. “Little Kulala” (kulala nella lingua locale signifca
“dormire”) si trova nella“KulalaWilderness Reserve”, creata nel 1996
su 37.000 ettari e aggregata al parco del Namib-Naukluft.
“Wilderness Safari”si èdata comeflosofa lo sviluppo fondandolo
sull’eco-turismo e sulla“conservation”, con una responsabilitàmirata
a proteggere l’eco-sistema e la biodiversità locali, con particolare
attenzione alla fora e alla fauna. Questo approccio si riversa infatti
sull’utente e lo fa partecipe di un sistema eco-compatibile, dove
entrambi - natura e fruitore – sono protetti e coccolati.
L’area comune - salotto, ristorante, bar, biblioteca, sala da
fumo e da gioco - è molto suggestiva per la sua decorazione
minimalista fatta di rami e tronchi d’albero che rifetono ed
esaltano con i loro colori neutri e naturali l’ambiene circostante
e le tonalità del deserto. Annesso al bar si trova un’enoteca
climatizzata per conservare i preziosi vini sudafricani oggi
sempre più rafnati e di qualità.

lose to the red dunes of Sossusvlei (reputedly the highest
in the world), there is another of Namibia’s highly exclusive
lodges – Little Kulala – also visited by famous actors,
American billionaires and other celebrities who want to escape
from the jet set for a few days. Little Kulala, located on the banks
of the Auab River, which is completely dry for most of the year,
is part of the Wilderness Safaris Group that manages a chain of
prestigious, quality camps and lodges at the highest level, in an
area of some threemillion square kilometres.
Wilderness Safaris operates not only in Namibia, but also in
South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Little Kulala
(kulala in the local language means ‘sleep’) is located in the Kulala
Wilderness Reserve, created in 1996 on 37 000 hectares, and now
fully integrated into the Namib-Naukluft Park.
Wilderness Safaris has developed its own philosophy. Based on
ecotourism and conservation principles, it is aimed at protecting
the regional ecosystem and biodiversity, with particular attention
to local fora and fauna. This approach is conveyed to the clients,
making them participants in the eco-friendly system, where both
nature and guests are protected and pampered.
The recreational area of the lodge – lounge, restaurant, bar,
library, smoking roomandgames – is friendly andcharmingwith its
minimalist décor of natural branches and tree trunks that refect the
warm colours of the surrounding desert environment. Annexed to
the bar is an all-year-round air-conditioned cellar where top-notch
South African wines are kept at the right temperature, increasing
their refnement, sophistication and quality.
